Susan has been a Registered Nurse for 31 years. Currently, she is a Critical Care nurse (CCRN) at Yakima Regional Medical & Cardiac Center, working in the ICU. Susan is an exceptional Nurse Leader, educator, and advocate for patients and nurses. She is the epitome of the professional nurse and an excellent role model.
Susan is a member and Ambassador for the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and the elected President of the Washington State Nurses Association (WSNA), as well as a member of the WSNA Board of Directors – District 6, Board of Trustees, Past-President and current Trustee of the Washington State Nurses Foundation (WSNF).
On the national level, she is a current board member of the National Federation of Nurses’ (NFN) National Advisory Board, as well as a WSNA Delegate for the NFN. Susan has been a WSNA Delegate for the American Nurses Association House of Delegates/Membership Assembly for the past 9 years.
Past awards have included: District 6 Excellence in Leadership Award, Nurse Hero Award and WSNA E&GW Local Unit Award.
Susan’s passion for nursing is demonstrated in her commitment to excellence, her perseverance to make a difference and be a voice for patient safety and safe staffing, among other issues. She believes patient satisfaction mirrors staff satisfaction, as well as patient engagement.
Susan does not follow the path ahead softly and quietly, she blazes a new trail at every turn! She believes it is vital that nurses have an active role in healthcare reform, giving input and sharing their expertise on the issues surrounding nursing practice, patient safety, quality healthcare and health care access. To quote Susan, “United, we can make a difference. The needs are great. Nurses, join me, and let us continue to move forward. Together, we can be that driving force, bringing solutions to the challenges in health care for today.”
